I thought I would share this video. I don’t have many of me. This one is from 2015 when I graduated from the Learn Ventriloquism course. I hope you enjoy it.

My 2012 graduation video for Tom’s Learn-Video course.

Last night I looked it up on YouTube and watched it after not seeing it for about 5 years. I bought the beginners puppet at a Santa workshop along with an elf costume in March and found Tom Crowl’s course on the internet. Some background for video: As a charter member of the Clan Claus Society, and attending scottish festivals, I made a kilt for the puppet for festivals. My graduation video was recorded and posted July 3, 2012, I learned of the Vent Haven ConVENTion and attended a couple of weeks latter. I bought an Axtell Vern and Possum and was hooked on ventriloquism. I’ve attended the ConVENTion each year since.

I have tha Axtell Mini Moose, originally named Maxilillian A. Moose, who wanted to join Santa’s reindeer team. but couldn’t fly. I bought the Axtell red nose when it became available and he became Rudy, Rudolf’s cousin and appears in my Breakfast with Santa show. My Axtell old Story Teller named Zeke, he’s 93, has a Karate outfit, holds a “plaid belt” and is in the Senior Olympics. Three years ago, I bought a MAT puppet, he’s 86, but celebrated his 21st birthday on February 29th two years ago because it was Leap Year when he was born.

I grew up watching Edgar Bergen, Paul Winchell, Jimmy Nelson’s Nestle’s commercial and vents on the Ed Sullivan show live on TV in the 50″s. My graduation video script was based on kilts, scottish festivals, and learning ventriloquism. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

My graduation video was “Willie’s” first and last appearance because of “graduating” to Vern and Possum to learn and practice more.

I didn’t realize till seeing my graduation video that Wille was the name I used in the video. My MAT puppet is Named Willie B Pfinnicky after seeing a restaurant named Finnicky’s in Washington state when I was searching for a name for him.

Willie losing his bonnet was an accident, the response was ad-lib. Since my graduation video, I’ve learned voices for my characters. My video was made after just completing Tom’s course learning vent basics and not getting into character voices. It was fun to see the video after not seeing it for several years, forgetting that I called him Willie, realizing I did have some humorous lines and my raging nerves weren’t too obvious.

It was fun for me as well.  After seeing your how to post video instructions on this forum, I decided to find my graduation video on YouTube.  It was the only thing I had ever posted on video and it took me a bit of searching to find it.  That puppet was how I took your course and it hasn’t been used since.  So it served it’s purpose.

Thanks Eddie,

Other than my family, I think Tom was the only one who has seen it.  I had not seen it much since I made and posted it for Tom in order to finish his course.  Probably because it was just a basic “beginners” puppet.  As I look back on it now, I see some good things I did…. interacting with the puppet, not staring at the camera and ad-libbing after the puppets bonnet fell off.

I had not shared it anyplace before this, it wasn’t easy to find it myself to post it here. I appreciate that you thought it was fun.

As I see it now, I had theme, a story to tell; talking about different tartans (the MacDonald tartan, there are actually several, which Willie thought was called the “Golden Arches tartan, heh, heh) about wearing kilts and making one for Willie (he thought it was Clan Joann tartan), having our picture with a little boy looking at Willie (the only one from the Smoky Mountain Highland Games) in the Knoxville TN newspaper, showing my Clan Claus kilt (Claus of the North Pole tartan, Scottish Tartan Authority Certificate #7869 registered in the Scottish Register of Tartans) and demonstrate some labials for Tom.  So as I view it now, it doesn’t matter that I used a beginner puppet.  I “graduated” from Tom’s course and I’ve gone on with the Maher Studios Interactive Course and use Axtell and MAT puppets.

Until I found the video and watched it, I didn’t realize that I had used the name Willie for the puppet in the video.  Willie B Pfinnicky is the name for my MAT puppet without any recollection of my beginner puppet Willie.

That’s my story.

Like I said in the last paragraph of my post just above Ann’s post, I didn’t realize I used the name Willie in the video (it had been a long time since I had seen the video).  Since then, I received an email notification from a kilt forum (had not been there for a LONG time … several years, because my time has been busy with learning vent:  watching vent videos, writing and editing scripts, learning scripts, practicing, etc, etc, etc.)

On the kilt forum, I discovered, a post I made there when I described getting my puppet and going to Scottish festivals with Willie, that I had a full name posted for Willie.  It was based on, Sir William Wallace, historic leader of the first war for Scottish independence.  (I have Wallace Scottish ancestors who came to the US in the mid 1600’s, therefore my first name Wallace).  On the kilt forum, my puppet’s name was William “Willie” Angus Wallace.  I bought a soft case from Jodi Wade in a vendor room at the 2012 ConVENTion and Willie has been in there ever since, because I also came home with my first 2 Axtell puppets (Vern and Possum) to continue learning to vent.

So my beginner puppet, “Willie” has not seen the light of day for six years, he is resting comfortably in his hand-made kilt along with his elf outfit.

Thank you Ann.  It was FUN doing it.  Now, I don’t remember how much work I put into it.  The most I remember is looking for plaid fabric at Joanns Fabric and hand sewing Wille’s kilt.
